Fall Retreat 2011 Highlights

Hey Everyone!

Thanks for making this past weekend’s Fall Retreat at TimberLee a complete BLAST!  In total, we were able to accomplish almost 400 hours of volunteer work for the camp in one day!   Between splitting logs, raking leaves, cleaning up volleyball courts, and clearing brush and creating fire rings, we had the opportunity to serve TimberLee in a powerful way that will help them continue to share the Gospel effectively.  In addition to that, we had a great time of worship, sharing, the Skit-tastic Show, and the ever popular night games!  Thanks for a great and memorable weekend!

1 John 4:9-10:  “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Receive first.  Give second.

Enjoy the highlight video of our weekend!  (click here if you’re having problems viewing)

Fall Retreat 2011: Update

Oasis Fall Retreat 2011 Update

Hey Oasis Parents & Students!

We’re so excited for this weekend’s fall retreat and glad that your son/daughter is able to be a part of this. We are excited to have almost 50 students and adult leaders join us and look forward to a great weekend of fun, excitement, service with our group. Here’s a few last minute reminders and details I wanted to make sure you were aware of:

1.Our purpose and focus for this retreat is serving Timber Lee and building community in our group.  We plan to offer ourselves to Timber-Lee camp to be used to help with different work projects around the camp.  Because this is our focus, our group meeting times will look different than our typical retreats – with an emphasis on building relationships in our group and challenging students to serve others as a result of Christ’s love for us.  We will only have a few short group meeting times this weekend, so we can maximize our time of service and give back to the camp as much as possible with the work we do for them.

2.Please plan to arrive at church by 5pm tomorrow night!  We want to leave as soon as possible, but need to see all your cheery faces and get your luggage packed first.  Your promptness is appreciated and helps us get on the road quicker!

3.Don’t forget to bring $$ for dinner on the way up.  We will be stopping at a Culver’s for dinner.  This meal is not included in the price of the retreat.  It’s one of many favorites we have on this retreat, so come prepared.  While you’re at it, say a little prayer for the fry guy in the back who we’ll keep busy when he sees all 50 of us arrive in his restaurant.

4.Just a reminder that no cell phones, portable electronics, iPods, or similar electronics (except cameras) are allowed on this retreat.  Please leave these at home!  We want to intentionally separate ourselves from our technology for the weekend so we can be fully present and engaged with one another and our service to the camp.  This is possible only when we all commit and agree to unplugging ourselves from our devices.  Adult leaders will have cell phones with them, but will be used only in cases of emergencies or communicating with other leaders.  If an emergency arises and you need to get in touch with your student, please contact the main Timber-Lee phone number and they will relay a message to us:  262-642-7345.

5.We will arrive back at Grace Bible Church on Sunday at 3pm.  We will post a status update on our arrival time on our Oasis Facebook page once we are enroute to Elmhurst after lunch.  Please check there for any last minute updates or changes to this time.

6.  If your student is leaving their car at the church, please have them park it at the far east end of our parking lot, so it does not interfere with regular parking needs for our Sunday morning services.

7.If you still need a list of things to bring/not bring this weekend, click here and download a copy of our Fall Retreat info and packing list brochure.

We’re excited your student is joining us on our retreat and can’t wait to get it started!  If you have any other questions or concerns, please contact Pastor Eric at the church office – 630-832-8416.

See you on Friday at 5pm!

Pastor Eric
