A Packin’ We Will Go…..

Packing

Hey Team -

As mentioned in a previous post, we will be packing the trailers for Colorado on Saturday, July 11.  Please bring all of your luggage (all suitcases and sleeping gear) to the church between 7-8pm to be loaded into the trailers.  They will be locked promptly at 8pm, so please don’t arrive after 8 and expect your luggage to be included!

A few things to keep in mind while you prepare and pack:

  • Consult the packing list if you have any questions about what to bring or what not to bring.
  • Remember:  the weather will fluctuate greatly while we are in Colorado (see side bar for current weather conditions).  Prepare for 70-80’s during the day and 30-40’s during the evenings.  Expect rain.  Plan your clothing accordingly.
  • One of your suitcases must have the essentials you need for our overnight stay on the road.  This bag will be packed in our “overnight trailer” and will be the only bag you will have access to until we arrive in Colorado.  All other luggage will be put into our “Colorado trailer” and opened once we get to Colorado.  Please keep your sleeping gear separate - this will be packed in the overnight trailer too.  We will have designated areas and signs at the church for you to put your luggage and make sure it is packed on the correct trailer.
  • Bring a bag lunch for the road on Sunday.  We will be having lunch at a rest area along the way, so please plan accordingly!  Will not have cooler access for everyone’s lunch, but can instead pack it in your backpack for the van.  Please also keep your water bottles with you.
  • Bring a day pack/backpack with you on the trip and in the vans.  You’ll need to pack it with your 2 water bottles (for lunch and dinner), your Bible/notebook/pens, and any other things you will want in the vans (card games, books, etc).
  • If you are not able to drop your luggage off at the church between 7-8pm on Saturday, please make arrangements in advance with Pastor Eric.  Our goal is to have all the luggage packed in the trailers on Saturday night so we can quickly leave on Sunday morning.  Thanks for your help in making this possible!

If you have any questions, please contact Eric!

T-Minus 8 Days

Alarm Clock

Our departure is only 8 days away! Keep checking this website as we post a number of different updates, details, and important information you will need to know before we leave next Sunday, July 12.

Of most importance - we will be meeting at Grace Bible Church on Sunday, July 12 at 5:30AM. (yes, that is “before noon”) Please arrive on time so we can get on the road quickly! We’ll have a full day of travel ahead of us (12+ hours) and will explain how far we’ll be going that morning before we leave.  We’ll also have some light breakfast food there for you to eat, so just roll out of bed, throw your clothes on, and get yourself to church!

Since we are leaving so early on Sunday morning, we will be packing all our luggage the day before (Saturday, July 11).  Please plan to drop off all your luggage and sleeping gear at the church to be packed.  (Exact time:  TBD)  Check back here later in the week for the specific time you can bring them by and load them into one of our trailers.

When packing, please remember to pack one bag with the essentials you will need for one overnight stay while we travel.  This bag, along with your sleeping bag/mat/pillow will be stored in a separate trailer and will be the only bag you will have access to until we arrive in Colorado.  (see packing list for more details)

Check back during the week for more updates and details (including how much $$ to bring, time to drop off luggage, communication during the trip, etc).  Can’t wait to get this trip started!

Winter Park Resort

Winter Park Resort - Alpine Slide

Trip plans are getting finalized and I can’t wait to experience everything we’ll be able to do while we’re in Colorado!

One of our stops during the week will be Winter Park Resort, nestled in the beautiful Winter Park ski area, and located nearby Timberline Lodge where we will be staying. Once we’re there and purchase our Adventure Pass (already included in the price of our trip), we’ll have the rest of the day to explore and have unlimited use of:

  • Alpine Slide (Colorado’s largest…clocking in at over 3,000 feet long and a 610 foot vertical drop!)
  • Mini-golf
  • Zephyr Express scenic chair lift (to an elevation of 10,700 feet, giving you some great views of the Continental Divide and surrounding mountains and area)
  • Human maze
  • Outdoor climbing wall
  • GyroXtreme (think NASA space training)
  • Leaps & Bounds Bungee (harness yourself into one of 4 small trampolines and be an acrobat)

Before you can take advantage of all this, you’ll need to have their waiver and liability release form filled out and signed by both parents and students.  Get it here and turn it in before we leave for the trip!

Get ready…it’s almost time to ride!

Rub a Dub Dub

Hand Car Wash

I’ve been helping finalize plans and details for an upcoming Colorado Car Wash to help raise support for the trip!  Here’s the details you need to know:

When:

Saturday, June 20 9-3pm (set up begins @ 8:30am)

Where:

Grace Bible Church parking lot (398 Eggleston Ave., Elmhurst)

Cost:

Nada, but donations will be accepted and applied toward the cost of the trip

The Details:

2 work shifts will be available for those who want to help:

8:30am-12noon (help with set up)

12noon-3:30pm (help with clean up)

*Note:  Please dress in appropriate car wash attire*

(girls:  one piece swimsuit or t-shirt/shorts, guys:  t-shirt/shorts)

If you can help by donating towels, please drop them off at the church anytime prior to the day of the car wash.  All other supplies will be provided.

All money raised during the car wash will be split evenly among those who work one of the shifts!  If you’d like to help work, contact Kera, Larissa, or Eric soon to sign up for a slot!  There are a limited amount of spots available for each shift (to avoid too many workers being on site at one time).  If a shift is already full, please sign up for the other time and come then.

Grab your sun screen and tell your friends and neighbors and bring those dirty cars, trucks, vans, or RVs to clean!

Tom Sawyer & Huck Finn…Eat Your Heart Out

Noah's Ark Whitewater Rafting

Ready to go rafting down the Arkansas River while on our trip this summer?  Get ready, cuz it’s coming!  We’ll be heading to Noah’s Ark, a well-outfitted, highly reputable rafting company located in Buena Vista, CO, for a half-day rafting expedition on the great Arkansas River.

Never been whitewater rafting before?  No fears - we’ll be trained and guided by their leaders and staff throughout the whole trip.  Everyone will need to have a Noah’s Ark Whitewater Rafting Release Form filled out and signed (by both parent and student) before we leave (grab it here).

You may also want to look over the recommended equipment list to make sure you have the right gear and supplies when we take our trek.

It’s gonna be a blast!  Get ready for a wild ride.  Tom Sawyer & Huck Finn…eat your heart out.

Financial Update Postcards Being Mailed!

Just finishing up a postcard that will be going out to all of you tomorrow to give you some important information related to the trip.

Specifically, you’ll see if you have any forms or missing pieces of information that still need to be completed (like your GBC medical form, for example). But you’ll also see your remaining balance due for the trip! This will vary for everyone, based on a number of factors, so check your card carefully and call/email if you have questions! Check your mailbox..they should arrive Friday or Saturday!

Thanks for being patient while we updated all the financial and paperwork details for the trip! We’re almost there - only 1 month and 2 days until we leave!

Keep checking this website….more to come….

Updated Trip Info and Amount Due

Been talking with some of the great people at Timberline Lodge about our specific plans and activities we’ll be doing on the trip. They are *excited* about us coming and are looking forward to having us there! More info and specifics will be coming soon (including a daily itinerary with the things we’ll be doing).

Some of you are asking how much you still owe for the trip, when it is to be paid, etc. Look for a card coming to you in the mail in the next week with those numbers on it. If you have questions, just let Eric know. Reminder: all money must be turned in by June 28!
