Operation Christmas Child Event

Operation Christmas Child Event

Wednesday, Nov. 7

6:30-9pm

We’re starting the Christmas cheer early at Oasis this year!  Join us for a special night of outreach and service as we participate in Operation Christmas Child (a ministry of Samaritans Purse).  By filling a simple shoebox with gifts for children around the world, we can be a part of making an eternal impact in their lives!

We’ll meet at church and split into teams, go out into the neighborhood and ask for specific donations to make shoeboxes to be sent to children overseas.  We’ll then return to church, sort, pack, and wrap the gifts and prepare them to be shipped in time for Christmas to children who otherwise wouldn’t receive a present.

Some of the items we can collect and pack in the boxes include:

  • TOYS:  small cars, balls, dolls, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yos, jump ropes, small Etch A Sketch®, toys that light up or make noise (with extra batteries), Slinky®, etc.

  • SCHOOL SUPPLIES:  pens, pencils and sharpener, crayons or markers, stamps and ink pad sets, writing pads or paper, solar calculators, coloring and picture books, etc.

  • HYGIENE ITEMS:  toothbrush, toothpaste, mild bar soap (in a plastic bag), comb, washcloth, etc.

  • OTHER:  Hard candy and lollipops (please double bag all candy), mints, gum, T-shirts, socks, ball caps; sunglasses, hair clips, toy jewelry, watches, flashlights (with extra batteries).

Do you have some of these things at your home?  Interested in donating them?  Bring them with you!

We’ll also be accepting financial donations to help offset the cost to ship each box ($7).

In addition to going around the neighborhood, we’ll also celebrate with plenty of Christmas food and music to help us get in the holiday spirit!

Come pack and shoebox with us…and make an eternal difference!

**Please note the change in time from regular Oasis:  6:30pm-9pm!**

Fall Retreat Update!

Important Fall Retreat 2012 Updates!

Hey All!

Fall Retreat is HERE!  We’re excited you’re all coming and wanted to remind you of a few important details you need to be aware of.

We’re looking forward to spending the weekend together serving Camp Timber-Lee and spending time together as a group.

Here’s a few last details you need to be aware of:

  • Meet at church by 5pm on Friday!  Don’t be late!  (We’ll return to church by 3pm on Sunday)

  • Bring $$ for dinner at Culvers Friday night.  This is your own expense.

  • Pack work clothes and gloves for Saturday.  Plan to be outside most of the day working.

  • Bring a lawn rake (if you have one).  Label it with your name so it gets returned to you.

  • Pack clothes for night games on Saturday night, unless you want to be an easy target. = )

  • Don’t forget to pack the following:
    •     a sleeping bag
    •     pillow
    •     warm clothes
    •     personal items (towel, washcloth, etc)
    •     Bible/pen/notebook
    •     Camera

  • Please note:  If you are bringing any medication, please keep it in it’s original marked container, and bring it to church with you.  Due to liability and regulations, the adult leaders need to keep all medication but will make it available when needed.

  • NO electronics, iPods, cell phones, or games are allowed!  We love technology, but having them on a weekend trip like this keeps you from hanging out with the group and building relationships with each another!  Leave them at home, or they’ll be held by the leaders.  Cameras are welcome!

  • NO drugs, alcohol, illegal items, or weapons are allowed!

We can’t wait to get the weekend started!  If you have any other questions – please contact Pastor Eric!  See you on Friday!
